Adir Cohen (b.1989) is a painter, sculptor, Textile artist & installation, a bachelor’s degree graduate with excellence from the Department of Art Shenkar College (2023), during which there was a student exchange at Siman “The Nova Accademia di Belle Arti,” Milano (NABA 2022).
Cohen draws inspiration from the translation of biographical elements for medium-material research, in which he examines the soft and flexible material (textile, hand weaving) alongside hard and breakable material (concrete and plaster). He received a grant from Rivkind Ben-Tsur for Art, education and community (2023). He exhibited at several group exhibitions in Israel among them “Fresh Paint” 2023 and “Siman Lebaot” (Edmond de Rothschild Center, 2023).
Carpet – “Monopol”, macrame thread and black tulle, 200×170 cm, 2023
A handwoven Carpet with basic graph, where he learned for his bachelor’s degree in Economics, of unfair trade mode where the supply curve is completely rigid and the demands of demand flexible. At the meeting point that passes through the product price, from coercion to consumers to pay the price prescribed without competition.
Painting – “A sculptor’s Lesson”, oil colors on canvas 160×160 cm. 2024
The painting presents 15 different portraits of a goddess’ head from the 4th century BC was sculpted in stone. The painting is divided into a sort of end of graduation of a learning course of sculpture and describes the features of the broken stone. The lips of each one of the sculptures are painted purple as a symbol of gender equality in a heterogenous society.
Tiles – “Untitled” Iron, white concrete, macramé, 54×54 cm, 2024
3 different tiles from a series of 18 presented as part of an installation in the Edmond de Rothschild Center. Under a limitation of size and technique, each tile describes a formal material encounter. A visual hybrid between the urban landscape cold and rigid concrete with a warm interior and traditional carpet.
