The 9th Hawiya Festival of Contemporary Arab Culture
Festival Hawiya (English: identity) returns for the 9th year of collaboration between Jaffa Theatre and Al Saraya Arab Theatre, under one roof for 20 years, a partnership that encourages mutual acquaintance and rapprochement between Hebrew, Arab and Middle Eastern culture.
The atmosphere of suspicion, persecution and public opinion towards Arab artists since October 7 leaves them with a painful feeling of isolation and without freedom of expression and creation for fear of personal and professional consequences. The Hawiya Festival seeks to create a valuable alternative against the attempts of persecution and cultural censorship, and to allow a free stage for expression and authentic creation. Believing in the power of culture to shape a person, the festival opens a window for the Israeli audience to a wonderful world, with the aim of relating to the reality of the people in the Arab world, and becoming aware of their pain, dreams and humor through their creations in this difficult time.
