Book Launch by Koki Doktori
Tribe of One is a book dealing with surviving life in a different scenario, in a forceful way, by seeking for meaning in life, and by explaining the impact of moving from one country to another. From Iraq to Israel and from Israel to the USA. Koki in his book takes his readers on a journey which is more than just switching one place to another. He talked about his life, his struggles, and looking for professional achievement in order to survive. The way of thinking in the artworld became his way of life.

As a young person he looked for direction that would give him meaning and the ability to strive and excel. Koki says: “I came into the world with no specific talent or specific reason to do anything in particular. I arrived in Israel when I was 10 years old and I did not have the tools to be able to express myself intellectually in the Hebrew language. My limitation, since Hebrew was not my mother tongue and neither the Arabic nor the Hebrew that I spoke served me and kept me away from any profession that required language fluency. Therefore I could not get myself into a profession which needed such expertise.
I could not find myself and I was lost like a boat looking for the north star. As a result, I began to look inside myself. I was influenced by my father who was a goldsmith and I found something I could do and create through physical efforts”
Koki Doktori came from Iraq. like many Jews during that period. I came to Israel in 1949, with the hope of finding myself in a young country. From that point Koki went to New York to continue his study of art at Brooklyn Museum School of Art. He achieved sufficiently to be accepted and appreciated through his work in various galleries and museums, throughout the United States, Israel and Europe. This book was conceived for the purpose of looking at his life as a mature person.
