A poignant one-woman show about the world of a depressed single woman who lies on an eternal couch and can’t get up.
Clara’s Couch is a comically provocative imaginary semi-autobiographical monologue combined with rap segments. Like a swamp made of quicksand, the couch draws Clara into her hidden traumas and desires, and the relationships that shape her identity, the most toxic of which is her almighty friend – God. Through the sexual medium between the gods, the work reveals the placement of the male gaze at the base of the female being and examines the tension between desire for power and submission.
